We drew blood from Maisy our mini Jersey/Dexter cross and it’s en route to the lab! We are running a pregnancy test to see if the artificial insemination we did in January was successful. This is our second attempt. The first did not take. Maisy is a little older (she’s 4 and I didn’t know most people breed them for the first time by 18 months) so I’m way behind the curve but up for the challenge! If the test comes back negative, we will likely try putting her with a bull. Maisy will be our first family milk cow (God willing) and we have put SO much work into her. Owning livestock is like running a suicide prevention hotline. Almost every day, one of the animals is trying to bring itself to a slow and painful death, or sometimes a quick one. If you live in our part of Florida, it is only a matter of time before you drive down the road and spot a gopher tortoise in your way. We have only been trailering our horse ourselves for a few years, but typically Lynn is the one at the wheel. The kids had rodeo camp recently - to which they needed to bring Sassy - and Lynn had an unexpected meeting to attend. That left yours truly as the only option for a driver.
