When we lived in Washington state, we used to purchase a Forest Service land pass to hike with a chainsaw and cut down a wild tree for Christmas. It helped with forest management, maintaining space between trees to reduce wildfire risk, and also gave us a very fun adventure. We have not done that yet in Florida - though you can get a similar pass. The tree would look a little different, of course. But we still get a real tree. I love the smell and at least feel a tiny bit of connection to the wild trees we left behind out west. If you decorate with a tree, what kind of Christmas tree do you put up? My dad ordered “soup bones” from his local farm and got a couple whole leg bones. I guess you could use some kind of saw to cut them. But he brought them to our house for Zinnia, our rescue dog who started with humble beginnings as a pup seized by police and is definitely living the life now.

The kids did their first rodeo today! Their event was “goat undressing on foot.” They have to catch a goat and grab a ribbon of its tail, throw the ribbon in a bucket and raise their hands to stop the clock. It seems grabbing the rope is the best strategy, then use that to shimmy toward the goat. The real winner was the crowd- who doesn’t love watching kids chase a goat in circles? Lily’s time was around 24 seconds, Jack’s was about 13 seconds.
Further proving YouTube Shorts make creators less money. Though I disagree with his claim that long form creators should move into shorts. That is totally untrue. If a long form creator wants to move into shorts, make a new channel for that. Long form creators with an established audience are still doing well. But shorts will cannibalize a channel.
