Our farrier, Jordan, did a great job explaining what white line disease is and how it compromises a hoof. As with many health issues, it does have a metabolic component. Horses’ hooves take a beating when they are nutritionally challenged, usually due to too much sugar, and so it’s always a good idea to reevaluate your animal’s overall health instead of just focusing on the hoof, which is usually a symptom.
